Innovating Cities

Purpose

An Innovating City, beyond the commitments of levels Signatory and Reporting, undertakes a multi-year project to address a complex or seemingly intractable issue within the city linked to the Ten Principles of the Global Compact. The development and management of the project is done using the Cities Programme methodology – which includes tools that facilitate collaborative partnerships, and the establishment of rigorous monitoring and evaluation processes. Dedicated support is provided by the Cities Programme Secretariat. A fee is associated with this level of engagement which is invested into further development of research methodologies and related activities undertaken by the International Secretariat and made available to Innovating Cities. Communication on Progress (COP)

An Innovating City is required to submit an annual COP, which reports on the project activities following a prescribed format. This communication also contains a report on the application of the Global Compact principles in relation to the project, and more broadly in the city’s policies, practices and activities. How to engage as an Innovating City

The How to Engage? section of the website steps out the activities and documentation required to be submitted by cities wishing to become Innovating cities. It details how individuals, such as yourself, may start to facilitate dialogue with the right people. This includes holding a preliminary workshop, understanding who to invite and how to structure the event. To express interest in becoming an Innovating City, please contact the International Secretariat. The Terms of Engagement provide useful information and should be reviewed by cities wishing to engage as an Innovating City.
